Top 5 Intermittent Fasting Myths

The MYTHS that surround Intermittent Fasting are mind-blowing and I would like to address the misinformation here are — in my opinion the top 5 myths.

Myth no 1 — I will go into ‘starvation mode’ if I try intermittent fasting!

-Starvation mode

One common argument against intermittent fasting is that it puts your body into starvation, mode thus shutting down your metabolism and preventing you from burning fat.

While it’s true that long-term weight loss can reduce the number of calories you burn over time, this happens no matter what weight loss method you use

There’s no evidence that intermittent fasting causes a greater reduction in calories burned than other weight loss strategies. In fact, short-term fasts may increase your metabolic rate.

This is due to a drastic increase in blood levels of norepinephrine, which stimulates your metabolism and instructs your fat cells to break down body. The way we fast within Life Begins is gently introducing it, I encourage you to start listening to that clever body of yours. We clean fast with specific things we look out for, and specific things that I encourage you to do.

You would have to fast for 72 hours to hit starvation mode and that never happens. We fast, short fasts every day ♥️💫

Myth Number 2 — You need to add a DIET into Intermittent Fasting!

Oh NO you don’t!

Infact that completely destroys the real reason and benefits of intermitent Fasting. I spend around half an hour each day in free IF groups where I see so much conflicting advice being given

❌count calories

❌do Keto

❌dirty fast (there is no such a thing!)

❌low carb

❌add in Slimming World

Ah it breaks my heart as they are taking away all the goodness that IF will offer you as your body wakes up. I lost 55lbs Intermittent Fasting with absolutely no diets involved.

After around 4 weeks you will hit appetite correction which will happen naturally, and you will know when you are hungry and when you’re satisfied. Yes really!

You will also naturally start to want good nutritious foods as that’s what your body tells you that you want. Processed sweetened foods will start to taste too sweet and you will naturally veer away from them. You will be in control, you won’t need anyone to tell you to count calories, points, syns or anything vaguely like that. You will be able to trust yourself with your choices.

The way your body starts working is the way it’s made to work — you delay your eating time and don’t deny yourself what you enjoy eating. It’s the ultimate recycling — you use the food that you eat for energy during your eating window — what’s left over is then stored in fat cells and when you fast you tap into the fat cells and burn them away using the energy they create. This gives you weight loss.

Intermittent Fasting offers you complete freedom from diets, you end up enjoying food more than you ever have before. No guilt attached

Myth no 3 — You can ‘dirty fast’ and still gain the benefits of intermittent fasting!

ON NO YOU CAN’T!

Infact there is no such thing as ‘dirty fasting’ — I have seen talked about in free fasting groups and it’s used to describe adding lemon to water, cream, sweeteners to coffee, drink low calorie drinks and lots more during your fasted time.

This would be DIETING!

You wouldn’t gain any of the health benefits of Intermittent Fasting if you did this. IF is nothing about calories, it is all about keeping your insulin levels low, flavours spike your insulin and you will not gain all the amazing benefits of Human Growth Hormone, Autophagy, Ketosis, Gaba being released to your brain.

So no matter what people say, DIRTY FASTING — is not fasting and please don’t listen to bad advice.

Clean Fasting will help you with scientifically proven fasting that will do so much more than enable you to lose weight. You will gain the very best of health. Nothing dirty involved!

Myth no 4Intermittent fasting makes you lose muscle

Some people believe that when you fast, your body starts burning muscle for fuel. Although this happens with dieting in general, no evidence suggests that it occurs more with intermittent fasting than other methods. In fact the release of Human Growth hormone during fasting gives the opposite effect and feeds and maintains muscles.

Studies indicate that intermittent fasting is better for maintaining muscle mass. In one review, intermittent fasting caused a similar amount of weight loss as continuous calorie restriction but with much less reduction in muscle mass

Another study showed a modest increase in muscle mass for people who consumed all their calories during one huge meal in the evening

Notably, intermittent fasting is popular among many bodybuilders, who find that it helps maintain muscle alongside a low body fat percentage.

Mythbuster 5 — Intermittent fasting slows your metabolism

On the contrary, fasting, when done for short intervals of time, like in the case of most intermittent fasting plans such as 16:8, has been shown to actually boost metabolism and improve its adaptability.

Your metabolism is the sum total of all the chemical processes going on inside your bod. When you fast, your body is provided with the time and rest it needs to create chemical and hormonal advantages that boost metabolism.

Certain regulators of metabolism, such as norepinephrine and growth hormone are increased through fasting. Not only does fasting help your body keep metabolically important hormones high, but it also makes you more metabolically flexible meaning your body can adapt quickly to the fuel source (i.e., carbohydrates or fats) that is most readily available.

Intermittent Fasting is arguably one of the best processes to introduce to your body for ultimate health, energy and sustainable weight loss. I have been fasting for 5 years now, lost 55lbs my first year, maintained ever since and have never felt better.
